Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy practitioners work with children, young adults, and their families to facilitate participation and independence in meaningful daily occupations (AOTA)

Evaluation and Treatment

A typical Evaluation lasts 60-90 minutes
Evaluations are done using a combination of standardized assessments, observations during play and movement activities, functional task completion, and parent/child interviews. A comprehensive occupational profile and treatment plan will be created to drive the therapy process.

Direct and observation-based assessments are used to determine how your child performs in the following areas:

  • Gross motor skills
  • Fine motor skills
  • Visual motor/visual perceptual skills
  • Participation in daily living skills and instrumental activities of daily living
  • Executive functioning skills
  • Sensory processing abilities
  • Emotional-Behavioral needs

Additional assessments can also be completed for handwriting skills using the Handwriting Without Tears ® Print Tool and Handwriting Screeners

Treatment Approaches Offered: Our approaches are creative, client centered and individualized. Your therapist will work with you and your child to develop a plan that is unique to your needs and desired outcomes through:

  • Play
  • Sensory exploration
  • Strength and mobility training
  • Daily living skills practice
  • Social interactions
  • Collaboration with clients, caregivers, teachers and other professionals
  • Modifying and Adapting activity demands, materials, environments, equipment, etc.

Session Length:Typical: 60 minutes
Available: 30-45 minute sessions dependent upon client and therapeutic need

Session Frequency:

Typical:1 time per week
Available: Every-other week or 2-times per month dependent upon client’s therapeutic needs and scheduling availability

Consultations: We gladly consult and coordinate with parents and other providers including healthcare providers, school therapists, speech therapists, physical therapists, mental health and ABA providers, and teachers in relation to your child’s therapeutic needs.

Met our Therapists:

Michele Robinson, MS OTR/L
Occupational Therapist since 2009

Michele is a graduate of Towson University’s BS/MS OT program, and holds a masters certification from Johns Hopkins University in Education of Children with Autism . She has practiced in a variety of settings including school-based, acute care hospitals, and private clinics. She has also completed multiple trainings for feeding therapy interventions and is a Level 1 certified Handwriting Without Tears instructor.

Julie Skafidis, MS OTR/L
Occupational Therapist since 2014

Julie is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire’s BS/MS OT program. She has practiced in multiple therapeutic settings including skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, and pediatric outpatient clinics. Julie is also an accomplished competitive runner and loves to travel around the country to compete in marathons!

We gladly consult and coordinate with other providers that are involved with you including your healthcare provider, school therapists, teachers, OT’s and PT’s.
